I have 86 Monte Carlo with 4.3, I'm having a problem setting the timing. I made sure #1 cylinder was at TDC and the distributors rotor button was pointing towards number 1 cylinder. I went to started and it seem like it backfired out of the throttle body, what can be the problem. I would also like to know if a 98 suburban motor will fit in my 86 Monte Carlo with the 4.3 motor mount set up.

you may be 180 degrees out. this means you are not on compression but valve overlap. rotate the motor one more time and re install the distributor.

the motor will fit but the mounts are different and this is a huge undertaking as a lot more needs to be done to complete this installation
