1985 Chevy Celebrity 2.8l mpfi. I was driving last night and at the stop sign my car turned off, just as soon as I stepped on the gas. My car has tons of old wiring so I figured it was a loose connection that had troubled me before but nothing. The engine will not crank and all of the lights and radio turn on so I figured it isn't the battery.. All the fuses are ok too. I found two fairly small wires hanging down near the starter (red and black) but im not sure what they belong to, there was two bolt with loose nuts on the starter, so I thought maybe they belong there but still nothing. Im hoping that is the problem but is there anything I can do to figure out the problem for sure. Lately the car idled kind of funny, like if it wanted to turn off. But I drive the car all the time and it feels fine. Its an old car and I have only had it for 2 months. I bought it from an old man. There is oil everywhere and I keep having small problems that are causing big trouble. I tried to check the ignition by seeing if the lights dim but the previous owner hooked up the radiator fan so that every time I turn the keya little it turns on. Therefor the lights dim before I even tried cranking it. Also im not feeling any spring in the key, almost like I can turn it alll the way and it wont come back.

Basically what are the wires to and what is the problem, no crank but battery is ok. I dont know if this helps but the small engine on the starter looks completely connected. The loose nuts were on the larger peice. Check engine light is on and thats about all I can think of. Everything else runs great usually.

The second photo is just to show the condition most of the car is in. Very grimey. The first photo is of the loose wires and the bolts.

The fusible lik is the wire hanging down and is your issue,

get one from a parts store and replace it and make sure it is tight

You will need to check the voltage at the starter on the red wire on the seloniod. In the picture it looks like the red wire is loose or broken.
