1985 Cadiallic deville 401 V-8. Engine quits when start switch is relased. Replaced switch still have the same issue. At least we know that isn't the problem. At a loss as to what to do next. Or aswe used to say as kids, "How now brown cow?" Thanks. New pick up and module installed in distributor. Is there a starting resistor some where?

You replaced the ingnition switch on the lower column?

Power the coil from the battery if it continues to run-replace the ignition switch
