Replacing fusible link with fuse

I have a 1984 Jeep CJ-7 with a 258 I-6 the fusable link from the alternator to the battery went out. I would like to replace it with a fuse. What amperage fuse would you recomend? I have a 100 amp alternator. I installed a 30 amp inline fuse but it keeps blowing if there is any sort of decent draw on it.

It's very rare for that link to burn open unless at least two diodes are shorted in the alternator or you accidentally short that point to ground so there's no reason to use a fuse. Plus fuse links take a while to open up whereas a fuse will pop instantly if there's a momentary overload.

If you still want to use a fuse, you'll probably be stuck using a bolt-in type. I've never seen one of those maxi fuses larger than 50 amps. The bolt-in style is used for this application on a lot of newer cars. I'd search the salvage yards for a 120 amp.
