No. The starter solenoid uses a small amount of current (supplied by the ignition key) to activate a larger amount of current to turn the starter motor. They only call it "ignition key" because it turns on the engine.
Your ignition gets it's voltage from the battery, which first flows through a wire that has a specific resistance to it. The ignition module supplies the signal telling the coil when to fire.
