1984 BMW 733i engine sounds like deisel

Having issues with power steering not powered, while trying to correct this power brakes quit powering and now when starting engine sounds like deisel engine. Have had car approx 6 weeks and am trying to get it roadworthy but I can't get one thing corrected when two other things cause concern. Trouble shooting / diagnosis for these problems would be helpful. Also reference websites or manuals would be appreciated. Thanx kev.

Do you have access to a good quality scanner, what needs to be done first is a scan and check and repair any fault codes, do this first and let be know what you find then we can work through any additional problems.
