Nearly stalls when throttle is pressed down during normal acceleration. Started to occur recently when the vehicle warmed up. Now occurs whenever the car is running and being accelerated. Would like to narrow down possible causes.

It is fuel injected 16 valve, 1.6 liter. I am assuming that the problem is in the fuel distribution. I will try your fix. I also suspect possibly a dirty fuel filter or bad fuel pump. Idles fine but when the accelerator is pressed the engine rpms rise and fall. Seems that the air supply is fine after checking the vacuum lines. Also replaced the distributor cap and cleaned the rotor but the rubber cap gasket is swelled from oil contamination and broken as well as a rubber vent plug that is held in place by compression between the distributer housing and cap. Neither part is any longer available.
