My brake lights stay on even if engine is off lights stay on 280z2x2

I tap the brake pedal and nothing happens not even a flicker.
I have to take off the battery cable to turn it them off and not drain my battery, How can I fix it cannot afford to take it in right now.
How do I fix it and the steps if possible?

sorry my own service dog is having health issues so vet bills are high I have to figure out to fix it myself. Will NOt be a merry chistmas for me this year:(

The pedal switch may have gotten out of adjustment. Check it for proper contact with pedal. You can also pull plug off switch to see if that turns out lights.
