I have a 1982 ford thunderbird and was checking my radiator and it had ice in it whats that mean

It means you do not have sufficient mix of anti-freeze in the coolant and you need to resolve that ASAP before engine damage is done from freezing.

Thank you so much we did add antifreeze yesterday should we not drive it until its right how do I know I got enough antifreeze in it

That has to be all thawed out before you can do anything. You have to be very careful trying to do it by running the engine too because it will overheat quickly. You need to get it completely thawed out and drain a sufficient amount of coolant from it so you can add a sufficient amount of anti freeze and then run the engine long enough to get it all mixed thoroughly before sending back into the cold weather.
