New battery in my 81 Corvette why won't it start?

Just bought the car the previous owner said it wasn't running, but I thought I would just put new battery and at least have lights. Nothing works. No lights no nothing. Can you please help. Thanks

Check cables from battery to engine and body and starter. See if there are any fusable links at starter wiring. Positive goes there and then is distributed other places thru car.
