I was driving in traffic on the freeway and when I exited the car started smoking black smoke and running so rough I had to keep the idle up so it wouldnt stall. I havent done anything to it since then but about a month ago I replaced the qaud carb with a rebuilt, same as was on there. Also replaced the starter and flywheel, tires and battery. I could really use some answers. Thank you

I feel hat this will be a carby problem, may be the needle and seat is stuck open and causing it to be well over rich, start here.

OK Thank you very much. There was a problem when the carb was first installed, it was the auto choke. Just cuz its new or rebuilt doesn't guarantee its good, thats for sure. I was also thinking maybe the catalytic converter?

Doubt that it is the cat, more like over rich due to a problem in the carby, also make sure that the fuel pressure is not to high.
