The truck is manual, 360 eng. And starts the first time. The second time it cranks fast but wont start. Has a good battery and gas. Thanks.

When it does this dump some cold water on the ecm on the fender. If it starts the ecm module is bad. Then check the pickup coil for to much resistance it should be 400 - 800 ohms checked through the orange and purple wires. Then check for spark and do not ppull #1 or 8 plug wires as this can destroy the module. Next check the distributor plate/vacuum advance for wear. The plate won't move smmothly it will want to go sideways and you will see rust around vacuum advance pin.

POUR ABOUT 3 SODA BOTTLE CAP--FULS OF GAS DOWN THE CARB WHEN IT WON'T START, THEN TRY IT. RESULTS? TRIES OR NOTHING?

IF NOTHING DIFFERENT CHECK FOR SPARK--PULL A PLUG WIRE OFF OF A PLUG, SHOVE A NAIL OR SIMILAR ITEM IN BESIDE THE METAL RING INSIDE THE BOOT---HOLD THE NAIL ABOUT A 1/4 OF AN INCH FROM METAL ON THE ENGINE WHILE YOUR PAL CRANKS THE ENGINE----DO YOU HAVE A BLUE SNAPPING SPARK?

WHATCHU GOT?

WE'LL TAKE IT FROM THERE

Yes it has an ecm it sits on the fender. Ford has had electronic ignition since 1974if it doesn't then it's beentaken off and you will have points in the distributor. If it has a point system then make SURE to check for a badbreaker plate and vacuum pinwear.
