I have a 360 FE engine and a 2 bbl motorcraft carb. I have just rebuilt the carb and now it wont run. I have to put the pedal to the floor and crank for a while. Once it fires it is black smoke and I have to give it gas to keep it on. There is no lean or rich screw on the carb just an "idle adjustment". 2 of them. Im not sure what I should do there is no gas leaking onto the manifold and when I turn it off I can see fumes come back up through the carb.

Recheck the float level on the carb and the two screws that are at the front take them out and spray choke cleaner in there then reinstall them and LIGHTLY seat the screws then back out 1 and half turns. Then make sure your accelerator pump is adjusted correctly and hopefully the carb kit came with a new power valve. If it doesn't work for you then take to amechanic who may know how to fix these things as not many know about carbs nowadays.
