I bought this old cj5 and replaced the radiator, fuel pump, battery, fan( with an old one I had laying around) and got the motor running. The problem I have this loud ticking noise coming from what seems like the lower front end of the engine. It is the 225 v6 Buick motor, has good oil pressure and sounds strong. But can't figure out where this noise is coming from and won't put it on the road until I do. Any help is much appreciated. Thanks.

WITH A 3 FOOT PIECE OF GARDEN OR HEATER HOSE

CAN YOU PIN DOWN THE LOCATION BETTER?

I'M GUESSING THE RACKET KEEPS TIME WITH ENGINE RPM?

SHOVE ONE END IN YOUR EAR, USE THE OTHER END LIKE A STETHOSCOPE

WATCH OUT FOR THOSE PESKY MOVING ENGINE PARTS!

SORRY IT TOOK ME SO LONG TO REPLY TO YOU

BEEN INSTALLING CHEVY CAVALIER SEATS IN A '88 WRANGLER FOR/ WITH A BUDDY

HAD TO GET A BUNCH OF FLAT METAL/ NUTS/ BOLTS/ PAINTWE DROVE "WILLY" AROUND TO FIND THEM. HE'S SPORTING THE HARDTOP RIGHT NOW WHILE IT'S COLD

RUNNING INTO GLITCHES---WE NOW HAVE THE PASSENGER ONE IN. FINALLY AT 0100 HRS!

I'LL SHOOT YOU A PIC OF THE DRIVER'S SIDE SORTA SET IN THERE TO SEE HOW IT LOOKED

AS FAR AS THE RACKET YOU HAVE, IS IT A LIGHT TICK. TICK. TICK. TICK?

A TAT. TAT. TAT. TAT. CLATTER?

OR A KNOCK. KNOCK. KNOCK. KNOCK. LIKE HOLDING A SLEDGE HAMMER (HANDLE VERTICLE) 3 INCHES OFF THE FLOOR, BEING USED LIKE A 'TATER MASHER?

The sound is more like a tick tick tick, and I have I 3 foot stethoscope I'm gonna try to use tomorrow. Was working on seats today myself, trying to get the most room I can out of the drivers space with the tank under seat. Wondering if I should relocate it. Gonna take some pics and try to post them as well. That hard top is sweet! Was wondering if your buddy's cj a stick? I'll have a better description of that sound tomorrow.

IT KINDA DEPENDS ON HOW FAR YOU ARE GONNA GO WITH YOUR JEEP

RELOCATING YOUR DRIVER'S SEAT WOULD BE IMPRACTICABLE---AS IT MAY BE HARD TO STEER YOUR JEEP WHILE SITTING IN A DIFFERENT LOCATION OTHER THAN WHERE THE STEERING WHEEL IS LOCATED!!!

I'D SAY IF YOU'RE IN THE SAME BOAT AS I AM, YOU'RE KINDA STUCK WITH THE FUEL TANK WHERE IT IS NOW. YOU'D PROBABLY SPEND A LOT MORE $$$/ SWEAT/ AND TEARS GETTING ANOTHER THAT WOULD FIT AND COULD PROPERLY BE PLUMBED IN vs THE ROOM YOU ARE SEEKING

YOU MIGHT GET SOME IDEAS FROM THIS SITE

THEY ALSO HAVE A BLOG YOU CAN SUBSCRIBE TO, THEY SEND ME STUFF ALL OF THE TIME...........COOL THING IS, THEY ARE 70 MILES SOUTH OF ME!

THEY HAVE A PHOTO CONTEST EACH YEAR FOR THE COVER OF THEIR CATALOG (YOU CAN GET ONE FOR FREE, ON THEIR PAGE)

I ENTERED 4 DECENT SHOTS OF "WILLY" (THE PRIZE FOR THE COVER WAS "THE COVER" AND "$1000 SHOPPING SPREE"...........TOLD MY BUDDY REX (WHOSE JEEP NEEDS RESTORING) ABOUT THE CONTEST. MY GRANDSON AND I WENT TO VISIT HIM AND SHOT A BUNCH OF PICS WITH MY CHEAP CAMERA

..........REX DIDN'T PUT OUT A BUNCH OF EFFORT.......BUT HE, MY GRANDSON, AND HIS UNTOUCHED JEEP GOT THE BACK COVER (SEEN IN THE LAST LINK--THE LAST PIC OF THEM LOOKING AT THE MANUAL AND CATALOG WHILE SITTING ON THE FRONT).......PRIZE...."BACK COVER" AND $500 SHOPPING SPREE"

HE NEEDS THE PARTS MORE THAN I DO.....SO I FEEL LIKE I'VE TAKEN CARE OF MY FRIEND....RATHER SEE HIM WIN, THAN A STRANGER!

Took off the fan that I found on the shop floor and wouldn't you know it my sound is gone! That tip about the garden hose really helped. Thank you for the help. Gonna try and attach some pics of what I'm working on, I'm not to computer savvy. Grabbed a smaller stearing wheel and I think that the tank under the seat should b ok.

PAINT THE TANK UP PERTTY!

YOU WON'T RIP IT OUT OR KNOCK A HOLE IN IT, WITH IT UNDER THE SEAT

YOU CAN ALSO IMPRESS FOLKS BY "FILLING UP" AND STILL REMAIN SEATED IN YOUR JEEP

I KNOW YOU'VE HEARD THE "ENVIOUS ONES" TELL YOU HOW DANGEROUS IT MUST BE UNDER THERE. LIKE GRANDPA USED TO SAY, "JEALOUSY WILL GET YOU NOTHIN'!"

MINE'S IN THE SAME SPOT, IN "WILLY", MY 1946 WILLYS. YOU CAN SEE PART OF IT IN MY PICS BELOW

I LIKE YOUR GARAGE!----I THOUGHT MY "ONE SIDE" OF THE DUPLEX I WAS LIVING IN, WAS TIGHT QUARTERS. WHEN I REBUILT WILLY 20+ YEARS AGO.3RD PIC

LOOKS LIKE YOU ARE DOING A NICE JOB---SEND MORE PICS AS YOU PROGRESS. ONE OF YOUR GARAGE TOO!
