How do I check if the regulator is providing the battery with proper current?

Check voltage at battery with engine running. It should be 14 to 14.5 volts.
If not, you need to bypass the regulator by providing 12 volts to the field wire. If it charges, the regulator is bad, if not replace the alternator and regulator
