Water pump failed, bearings shot. Broke the serpentine belt. Had the vehicle towed home. Replaced the water pump and serpentine belt. Added coolant and would not start. Battery drained flat. Checked battery all is good just drained. Charged battery and car still will not start. It turns over but that's it. Had no other issues prior to this.

Clearly just doing the water pump would not cause this so we need to inspect around the engine and make sure there is not something left unplugged. Next thing is to find out if we have no spark or fuel causing the no start. Clearly the starting circuit is okay as it cranks but we need to find out which we don't have.

Check the crank sensor and make sure that is plugged in as well. That would be the leading sensor causing this.

To find out if you have no spark or fuel is to pull a plug ad hold it against the block then crank the engine. Then use starter fluid in the intake to see if starts with that.

Lastly, we need to check for the security light and make sure that turns off when you turn the key.

Let's start with this and go from there. Thanks

Okay. So I went back out this morning and now it wont turn over at all. Nothing was done since my last post so I am thoroughly confused. It just clicks now. Checked battery and it is good. So frustrated.

How did you check the battery? Just a meter across the terminals? Unfortunately we need to load test it. I know a lot of people that get burned by this.

Just remove the battery and take it to a parts store and they can load test it for you. I bet that is all this is. It may not fix the crank no start but we can get back to that once we fix this part of it.

I had the battery at Advance Auto that day. They said it was fine just needed charged. They charged it and tested it again and said all was good.

Okay. I am sorry to push this but when was that done? If your vehicle is currently not starting and just clicking but it was at least cranking yesterday, I suspect the battery has drained again. The fact that they tested it and it needed charged only points me further down the road of the clicking now is just a battery issue.

Unless I am not understanding I would have it tested again. If it needs charged again, I would just replace it. Because if they tested it charged it and then tested it again, it will pass but it is not able to hold the charge.

Before I took the battery in to Advance I tried to jump the car. It would turn over but not start. I took the battery in and had them check it. They said no bad cell all looks good just needs charged. They charged it I brought it home and tried to start just turned over would not start. This was yesterday. This morning I went to look at it and nothing. It just clicked. I tried to jump again and no change just clicking. And yes I did check the voltage with my meter. 12.6v.

Okay. Again, I bet that is the issue due to the extended cranking and not starting. The draw from a starter is pretty rough on a battery. So if it was needing charged and then you put it back in and cranked the engine, I bet it is drained again.

If you have another vehicle to jump it, just connect the jumper cables, start the other vehicle and let it run for about 5-10 minutes without starting your vehicle. Then after this time try to start your vehicle. I suspect you may get it to turn over. However if it is clicking then that is almost always a dead battery.

However, maybe I am not understanding the noise so if you want to get a recording of this clicking then that may help as well.

Okay, so I hooked jumper cables to my truck. Let it sit for 10 minutes. No change still clicks. Now the clicking is not coming from the starter but rather the top of the engine somewhere. I have my daughter's party today but if I get a chance I will record it and send it to you.

Okay, thanks. Yeah, hearing it should help because I don't think I am understanding the noise because a clicking while starting is a starter solenoid not getting enough voltage. I guess this could be a starter itself but that just seems odd that it would turn over but the next morning it will not unless all the cranking trying to get it to start has worn it out.

Jumping 12 volts to the starter control wire would prove this out.
