Why does it want to shift when not supposed to?

Doesn't do it everytime. Sits overnight and start it in the morning. I run idle for some seconds, back out and drive on the roads. 2 - 4 minutes in or so I am going at contant 30-35 mph and it wants to shift. I hear and feel a little bit but it's not rough. I am already going 30-35 when it does it but it should not shift at all at that point it wants to. This is the only time it tries to shift when not supposed to. There are no other symptoms and does not do that again the rest of the time it's warm even restarts. I drove a hour to 2 hours before and it does not happen during the trip, only within first few minutes or so if it does, never at any other speeds.

Trans oil and filter is like new. It is not carboned up.

What the problem you think it is and whether or not worth it to let a mechanic to install it. If too expensive about what would you say how long it will last before it really does something as in not driveable?

Thanks.

I have never ran across this problem on those cars and have seen and repaired a lot of them and iam factory trained on those cars.I would have to drive it which isn't possible thru the Internet. You could even be feeling the torque convertor trying to lock up.

Those early saturns like 1995 and down had issues with the torque convertor oring in the end of the input shaft that goes into the torque convertor. The start cracking and will no longer hold pressure like they used to. Are you sure there are no codes in the computer you checked?

Also when you start to have transmission problems with those cars it would happen more hot then cold when the fluid thins.

The symptom I described only happens at that point. I did not have the shift problem scanned.

The following I did not mention because I didn't think was important or part of the problem. Even the repair shop says not related but could be wrong.

At a cold start there is a clicking noise but goes away before the shifting problem starts, the clicking was clicking before the shifting problem; sounds like underneath the hood but I could never have it checked because it was always gone before I could make to the repair shop. One person told me clicking can be caused by the purge but that's new. Only way I could have was to have to sit overnight at the shop and the owner starts it in the morning and I chose not to do that. Been clicking for months nothing happens and not getting worse.

Engine light is on. Comes on at random no set time with or without the shift problem happening. It says in one form or another egr (sometimes system failure, another time 52 sets, etc.) All parts that consist of that has been replaced. Symptoms that appear for egr or vaccum leak don't happen. Diagnostics shows nothing. Light started nearly a year ago, won't stay off after several attempts gave up and so did the mechanic. Oh and it never remains on once it's on, usually on few minutes or so off and stay off, resets on restart sometimes turn back on sometimes not at all. Light has been reset

The reason I ask if worth it or not is cause I already put too much into it so if expensive I would not: egr valve and solenoid, purge, mounts, pcm, map sensor, throttle sensor, 02 sensor, battery, oil n filter, tires, stuff to fix exchaust hole on tailpipe, tune up, coolant sensor, rear struts, wiper blades, carbon cleaned out, I can't remember but there was something on the throttle body that was replaced (some sensor / motor or something) that caused rpms to stay up and there might be something I forgot to list. Each of those was bad though one thing was done and then another went out process, if all of the above went all at once I would have junked it only if I had known.

Maybe i'm not feeling or hearing the current problem right but sounds like shifting to me.
