Wont start

I have a 96 jetta. When I turn the key the dash lights come on but that is it. I am able to push start

So you8 do not have any resposne from the starter at all? First check for voltage at starter while cranking if you have none check the ignition swithc and starter relay. If you have voltage but the starter will not turn, take off the starter and make sure the pinion is not jammed in the flywheel or that the solenoid isnt bad.
