I just bought the car listed above from auction as a buy it now (big mistake, lesson learned) that starts up fine but when I move the shifter to any gear it will not engage. I put it in neutral and it acts like it's in park, it will not roll. I've manually moved the shift linkage on the transmission and it does move the shifter inside the car but no matter how I move it inside the car or under the hood it won't go into drive, reverse, or neutral. A few times running through the gears I get a grinding noise between reverse and park but that's it. The engine just revs in all gears and won't roll in neutral. Any ideas?

Good morning,

I would check the axle shafts first to be sure neither one is broken. It can cause this issue.

If the axles are good, then the transmission itself is the issue. It will have to be replaced.

I attached a YouTube video of the removal of the transmission.
