Transmission slipping

Transmission revved up to 4000, speed ten mph only. Limped home; No check engine light or codes on hand scanner. Restarted half hour later runs okay.

Need ideas of what the issue might be.

Hello,

This sounds like an internal transmission seal is failing when hot which is a sign of wear. If there are no codes then typically it is a mechanical failure. The transmission may need to be rebuilt.

Please let us know what happens, we are interested too see what it is.
