After going to several mechanics and changing all my mounts my car still clunks when going into reverse or accelerating fast. The last mechanic said that the car needs transfer case bushings, I cannot find this part. What parts keep the transfer case from moving? Is there a mount or a bushing or what? Please help in 3 g into this repair and no end in sight please help!

Hi,

I'm not sure what he is referring to as a transfer case bushing. There is an output shaft bearing at the rear of the transmission that has a retainer that needs to be flush with the bearing. If it isn't, there are different sizes of retainer clips used to shim that tight. That is the only thing I can think of that can in general be shimmed.

See pic below. To access this, the transfer case needs to be removed. Also, if you have the repair order, let me know what is listed.

Also, there is a CV-type joint where the front driveshaft attaches to the front differential. Has anyone checked that? They go bad and cause a lot of noise.

Let me know.

Joe

It seems to be loose with vertical play nearer to the front. What is the other CV joint connecting part called? I just had the whole suspension bushing all changed as well as axle on the passenger side and I don't understand where it connects.

Hi,

Do you mean there is vertical play in the entire transfer case? If you are under the vehicle, do you mean the transfer case can be moved up and down? The transfer case and transmission are bolted together. There are no bushings between the two.

As far as the front drive shaft CV joint, I attached a pic below and highlighted the part I'm referring to.

Let me know if this helps or if you have other questions.

Take care,

Joe
