1987 Toyota Tercel high idle/sputters when shut off

This vehicle starts well, has a high ilde that does not level off when warmed up, then when it is shut off it sputters until it finally shuts off. I did not realize that a donation would be asked for. I will donate when I use this service again. I am unemployed (9 months)and very short on cash.

You need to adjust the automatic choke/fast idle-sounds like the choke plate is not fully opening causing the idle to go high

WHERE IS THE AUTO-CHOKE LOCATED AND WHAT IS THE ISSUE WITH THE SPUTTERING WHEN I SHUT THE VEHICLE OFF

The choke plate is the butterfly its link to the auto-choke and fast idle-you need a repair manual to set it right or you can try spraying carb cleaner on all the linkages of the carb-sputtering-its bcuz the throttle plate is not fully closed
