1998 Toyota Corolla Vibrartion on idle when air cooler is o

After running for about 1 hour with A/C ON, the car creates huge vibration when it stays idle on brake. Sometimes, engine stops with knocking. If A/C is off then the problem does not appear.

Most likely the AC clutch is bad or the AC compressor bearing. In most cases the AC clutch can be changed, but if a bearing the compressor would have to be changed.

I like to add more on this problem. The vibration problem starts earlier if the steering is fully turned on brake.

It sounds like the serpentine belt is being stressed by the AC clutch/bearing.

The fact that it only does it when AC is commanded, points directly to the AC compressor.
