My car over heated a lot, I put in a new radiaotr, water pump, and new hoses. Are the heads in my car broken? How much is it to repair?

Hi there,

There is a good chance that you have blown a head gasket and even cracked the head, this is quite reparable, but the cost will be unknown until the head is removed and tested.

Have a compression test performed to check head.

If you remove head yourself, MAKE SURE to get the adjustment shims back in their original position.

Further to that, if the head is removed for any work, even if the valves are not touched, the shim clearances should be re calculated to get the clearances set again so that there is no chance of burning a valve at a later date due to a tight valve.
