After I have completed a turn in either direction, the steering no longer recovers smoothly on its own. Instead, now after I complete a turn, the wheel only recovers to about 80% of what it used to and seems to be "sticky." What could this be?

HI there,

The self centering of the steering is a design factor of the steering geometry, so I would be checking things like tight or seized ball joints top strut bearing plates, tie rod ends or bent steering arms and the alignment, you may also have a problem with in the steering rack but I would be looking at the other items first.
