1998 Toyota Camry Knocking

Engine knocks and then shuts down. When you restart it it sounds like a box of rocks. Before this happens when you put it in gear the knocking stops and all seems well. But when you drive away with it, it starts knocking in gear and then shuts down.

The only thing that could be is a bent rod in the motor. Did you let it run out of oil? I wish it was simple and the fix was easy, but you have a MAJOR problem that require a motor tear down and rebuild, or a new motor. Sorry it could be easier. Get a second or even third opinion and unfortunatly you are probably going to hear the same thing :(
