My 2000 Toyota Avalon has an auto door locking function (all doors lock automatically when the shift lever is moved out of "P" postion and the brake pedal is released). My owner's manual says this can be disabled - "consult your Toyota dealer for details". When I first bought the car, I did have it disabled, but in January we had a cold snap and this function became enabled again. Not sure if the cold was the cause or just a coincidence. At any rate, how can I disable it so that I don't have to pay the dealer to do it?

With ignition switch in ON position, open driver's door. Turn ignition switch off, repeat inserting and removing ignition key into/from ignition lock cylinder 5 times and turning ignition lock on and off 5 times within 10 seconds.

Press unlock side of door lock manual switch 5 times within 10 seconds after completion of step 1. The function is deactivated 10 seconds later.

Please let us know if you need anything else to get the problem fixed.

Cheers

I would like to deactivate the automatic door lock feature so the doors do not automatically lock when I start the car. Could you please help me.

Hi bluestar50,

Thank you for the donation.

I tried to find for Avalon but was not able to get any data on resetting but managed to find on Camry, so no promise it will do.

1. Close all doors.

2. With ignition switch turned to "ON", open driver's door.

3. Within 10 seconds repeat the following 5 tiimes.

Turn ignition switch "OFF", remove key, insert key, turn Ignition switch "ON".
(repeat 5 times in 10 seconds )

4. Press unlock side of door lock manual switch 5 times within 10 seconds after completion of steps 1 to 3 above. The function should be deactivated 10 seconds later.

Repeat process if necessary.
