Hey DAVE 1972,

What can you hear happening?

Are you in the 4H position on the floor shifter?

There are actuators on the transfer case and the front axle of this vehicle from what I can see.

Does the 4x4 light come on when you attempt to shift? Does it flash?

Regards, Joe

Hi. The noise is a couch as if it wants to engage when in forward, or high range position as it should be to press the button to engage four wheel drive. The light flashes as it should when trying to engage, but does not go solid, as it won't engage. I have been told there is a motor that engages the drive on the differential which gets stuck at times. Not sure if it's mechanical drive to engage or vacuum to engage. Your help is much appreciated.

Hey DAVE 1972,

I do not have the specific information for your vehicle as it was not sold in North America.
The Isuzu Rodeo was sold in the US and should have the same system.

From what I can see you will have an electric actuator motor on the front axle and the transfer case.

If you can upload pictures of the actuators for the front axle and transfer case actuators we should be able to identify the system.

There will be switches in both to tell the system the actuator has shifted to the end stop.

The light will not stay solid if either the motor doesn't move, it doesn't go all the way or there is an issue with the switch contacts registering the movement.

You can try with ignition on, engine not running, get someone to switch the 4x4 on at check to see if you are getting movement from both actuators.

The front axle actuator should be on the left of the front axle, you should hear it click if its moving, same with the motor on the transfer case.

Hope that helps.

Regards, Joe
