I was changing the oil filter when a seal fell out and I don't know where the seal goes. It seems to be the same diameter as the oil filter seal but I'm not sure if goes between the filter and the car, or where it goes. Can you tell me where this fits?

Is it the seal off the old filter? Sometimes they stick to the engine and come off seperate from the filter. Otherwise there is no seal like that for the oil filter

Thx for the reply. No its not the old seal fallen off the old filter. As I was wiping the crankcase surface to clean it for the new filter to seat cleanly, an extra seal from the crankcase surface fell off that is the same size as the filter seal but is definitely a separate seal as it is soft rubber. It doesnt fit inside the crankcase anywhere that I can tell, and just doesnt seem to fit anywhere logically between the filter and the crankcase area. I have never seen this on any american car.
