My question is on a Subaru H4 engine. Is there a timing belt or a chain? Also does Subaru use RTV material for there gaskets? Thank you very much. This is a great site.

They use a timing chain. As far as the RTV, I recommend the following. Clean both surfaces properly to eliminate old gasket material, oil, or contaminates of any type. Once everything is clean and dry, use a gasket and properly torque the item. I don't like the RTV. The engine was designed for gaskets. When they are used properly and the parts are properly prepared, they work much better than the other items.
