Check Engine with rough idle.

I drive a 1995 Subaru Impreza, auto, 4 cyl. I've only owned this car for approximately 3 months. When I bought it - it had 136K, now it has around 140K as I have driven back and forth from VT to DC quite a few times. It's always run like a dream.

Within the last month or so when pulling to a stop light the problem first starts with a very rough idle, nearly a stall, and then the check engine light flashes on and off and then after a minute or so the light stays on. After I start driving again - all seems well, with the exception on the CEL. After a day or two the light goes off and I forget about it again as the car runs exceptionally well for its age and the amount of wear I've put on it in such a short period of time. This has happened on and off for about 3 weeks now.

Help!

Hi
glad to hear you have so many good miles, there are so many things that could make the check engine light come on, I really dont want to go guessing and be wrong, I would rather see you spend a little and have the codes read, actually autozone will do it for free but they can not properly diagnose the vehicle they just read coodes in hopes of selling parts, have the codes checked and if you want to repair it youself we will be glad to assist you

The check engine light flashing indicates a cylinder misfire. You should get it checked out sooner rather then later or we could go from plugs and wires to plugs, wires and front catalytic convertor.
