Recently the steering wheels controls stopped working, so I disconnected the battery in an attempt to reset them. I hooked the battery back up after 15 minutes, and not only did it not work, but now both the radio and park assist won't turn on, almost as though they aren't getting power. Also, the chime to alert that headlights have been left on no longer makes a sound. What can I do to fix this? Thank you in advance for any help!

Hi,

The original issue sounds like what is called a clock spring may have failed. As far as the radio and park assist are concerned, that is odd. Have you checked to make sure the fuses are good and have power to and from them? Does the radio turn on but there is no sound?

Based on the system in the vehicle, the audible, warning indicator may actually come through the radio speakers, so the radio may be causing that issue.

Let me know if the fuses have been checked.

Here is a link you may find helpful when testing:

Additionally, here is a link you will find of interest. It discusses the symptoms related to a failed clock spring.

Let me know.

Hey Joe, thanks for the response! Yes, sir I checked all the related fuses immediately after the radio stopped working, before moving on to check all the fuses just to be sure. I didn't find any that were blown, and replaced the ones related just to be sure. The radio behaves like it's not getting power. It's not a case of being locked, it's as though it's been disconnected, despite the only thing I've done being to disconnect the battery. Based on what I've read here, I'm sure the steering wheel controls are the clock spring, but I can easily live without those. But a nonfunctioning radio has really been an issue, especially since I have special needs kids who thrive on music. And it's stranger that the park assist now status off, even giving a prompt on three dash, and pressing the button seems to have no effect. Thank you for the response and any and all help. Hopefully this helps narrow down the problem?

Hi,

If the radio fuse is good and has power to and from it, move to the radio itself. On the rear of the radio is the connector. There will be a red wire with a white tracer.

With the key in ACC or the run position, check that wire to see if there is power to it. If there is, it sounds like the radio has failed for some reason.

If there is no power, recheck for power to and from the fuse.

Let me know.

Joe
