Would not crank. Replaced battery, heard buzzing, replaced starter relay, buzzing stopped, but it would not start. I was advised to consider a new starter, bought a new starter tried to replace using Youtube. Got it started and asked a mechanic friend for help he replaced starter, cranked right up shut off and would not start again.

Tried the steps and no change. Is the key fob necessary? Ours pooped out and we just use the key. Thanks!

Yes, because the key has a transponder in it to complete the circuit If it is not new. If it is a new key it has to be programmed by a mechanic so your car will start.
