Had a "mechanic" come and replace my starter, he disconnected it and said he would be back in an hour to put it back in. It's been about a week and I cannot get a hold of him now. Does anybody know exactly how to install starter step by step?

Hello,

Installing a starter is fairly an easy process on that Monte Carlo.
The starter is located on the lower front of the engine.
It is mounted by 2 bolts. Just take out the bolts, take off the wire from the solenoid and the starter will drop down.
You will have to put the vehicle on jack stand in order to have easy access.

Here is a helpful article:

I have attached the replacement procedure for your reference.

Please let me know if you have any questions.
Thank you.

I don't know if you can see the picture clearly, but when I went to connect the battery there was a huge spark with positive cable. I might have connected the wrong cables to the starter.

It is difficult to see the cables on that picture. Maybe a picture form the bottom might show the connection.
Getting a spark at the cable is not unusual. So when you try to start the vehicle what does it do?
