I replace the original power steering gearbox with a remanufactured one. I don't think they were always in the fittings when I took it apart it's awfully hard and much like a brake line. I have tried putting the O-rings in that came with the new gearbox and it leaks. On the low pressure side I went without an o-ring and it quit leaking? When I don't put in the O-ring on the high-pressure side it weeps but with an o-ring it leaks more? The fitting only calls for 25 foot pounds of torque.

Hi and thanks for using 2carpros, com

The fitting doesn't take an o-ring. Either something isn't threading in properly, the flair is nicked, or the remanufactured gear is nicked.

First, remove the fitting. What I would suggest is to replace the hose / line with a new fitting. However, inspect the flair to make sure there is nothing is nicked or damaged.

Do that and let me know what you find. You may also want to try putting some teflon tape on the threads to see if that helps stop the leak.

Let me know.

Joe

I removed the o-ring, cleaned and inspected both the flare and the steering gear box. They both looked good so I added the teflon tape as you suggested and torqued it to specs. After two days of driving no leaks have developed!
Thank you guys very much.

Happy to help and glad to hear it's fixed. Sometimes the teflon tape is all you need.

Let us know if you have questions in future.

Take care,
Joe
