1997 Pontiac Trans Am
Engine Mechanical problem
1997 Pontiac Trans Am V8 Two Wheel Drive Automatic 179,00 miles
I have a 97 trans am with the 350 engine. I just bought the car about a month ago with low oil pressure problems. starts at around 40-50psi at startup and slowly go down getting close to 10psi. No noise, no smoke just low oil pressure. I changed the oil sending unit and checked it with a mechanical gauge and its reading correct. Please help me. ps, the oil pressure is around 40 when driving, as soon as u give it gas, the pressure goes up..Faulty pump or bearing? or something else?

Usually when oil pressure is normal and drops down after driving is caused by to much clearance in bearings. Check rod bearings main bearings and camshaft bearings for proper clearance with plastigauge.
