Had a leak under the car was diagnosed water pump. Friend replaced the water pump and the thermostat. Now there is no leak and at moment no overheating. But after changing all this out when car is cranked and the gas is pushed you hear a whining noise. Ive been told that the water pump that we got is bad. That the barren in it is bad. What is your opinion?

It is possible that the pump is bad, they are warranted, remove and warrant the old pump for a new one.

Make sure tha pulleys are clean, coolant can contaminate the pulleys and cause squeaking, whining.
