Engine Mechanical problem
2001 Pontiac Grand Am 4 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

My car started fine, and was going to the bank. I then decided to go to the gas station next door first to buy something, then go to the bank. When I came back out to go, my car wouldn't start. I tried for an hour. Their was no smell of fuel, and the car would turn, but not start. I had to call a tow service, to tow it home. What could the problem be?

What was the security light on the dash doing? Try a relearn on the security syst.
GM PASS LOCK RELEARN- Ignition to "run" position, try to start and let key return to "run" position
Approx ten minutes security light will go off
Turn key "off" and wait 5 seconds
Repeat 2 more times for a total of 3 relearns.
Turn key off, then start it

When you turn the key to "ON" can you hear the fuel pump run for 2-3 seconds? if not open the gas cap, and have someone turn it to on, does the pump run? if not check the fuse and relay under the hood. if you hear the pump test for spark...

I went on a Grand Am site, and others had said something about resetting a security code. I did find out my gas cap was not all the way on, but I found this out while trying to reset the security code. The car turned over once and quit. Should I try reseeting it again? When I turn the car to on, the security light and service engine soon light comes on.
