Hello,

I have noticed that the last few times I have driven my car the temperature gauge seems to be going up past halfway to the point where the electric fan is turning on. This normally happens at idle like when I am stopped at a light or going through a drive-thru. I am thinking it could be the thermostat as that has never been changed but I could be wrong. I do my own maintenance as I used to be an A/C mechanic and used to work on older cars but these newer cars are out of my league!

What do you think could be the problem?

It sure would not hurt to change the thermostat, but have you at least checked the coolant level? If it is low, you probably have a leak.

The coolant level is fine but I have never changed it in the time I have had the car. I have just added to when when needed. Would a coolant flush plus changing the thermostat help. There is certainly no rust in the system as the coolant color looks fine. I keep up with the maintenance on this car as this is my only vehicle and needs to last.
