I just bought a used 1996 dodge avenger and everything is great except it seems to be over heating easily and quickly. It almost looks like its leaking grease, but my brother said it could be really old oil? It looks like its splattered all down the middle of the car. It doesnt get all the way to the "H" but it gets close. There is coolant, and new oil, I don't know. This is my first car, I'm a college student and I just really need help, I don't know what to do.

Hi there,

Start with the basic cooling system problem areas, change thermostat, have radiator cleaned and check for blockages, replace pressure cap, check foe any external coolant leaks, start here.
