HOT/COLD indicator is always at cold

Hello,

I have an Oldsmobile Alero 2001.
my problem is that the HOT/COLD indicator is always at cold and my FAN runs as soon as I turn the engine on. This started happening after the GM garagist changed the bearing of the right wheel. Of course everything was ok before he did the job and when I picked up the car it had this problem. I am mad. But I don't trust him anymore.
What could have happened. But more importantly how could I fix it?

Keep in mind that my engine is cold.I can run for 45min straight and the engine is cold.

thanks

First off, all the work you mechanic did on the wheel bearing has no connection to your problem. Second if your engine was running for 45 minutes, then the engine isn't cold it at operating tempeture, your gauge isn't reading the temperture. Sounds like your temperture sending unit is faulty, find it, its usually near the goose neck that your top radiator hose connects to, or on the engine block. Disconnect the wire from the sending unit, turn the key to the on position (don't start the engine) now ground the wire somewhere on the engine block, and have someone watching the gauge, if the gauge goes all the way to hot, then the gauge is ok, change the temperture sending unit. They cost from $7.00 to $12.00
