1992 Oldsmobile 88 Royal
1992 Oldsmobile 88 Royal 123,000 Mi. Getting trouble codes 23,31,41,58
"service engine soon" light comes on and off while driving and car occasionally "bucks" at highway speeds
I am having trouble getting a straight explanation of what the trouble codes actually mean. Most translations I get list 5 or 6 different things for each code and the one resource I found that seams to be make, model specific
"http://autorepair.about.com/library/ts/obd-i/bl-dtcs-16a.htm"
codes 41 and 58 are not listed.
Vehicle is equipped as follows"
3.8L
ABS (malfunctioning)
analog instrument cluster
automatic climate control (digital)
power everything
resister pellet ignition key
[u:52470d1589]No[/u:52470d1589] traction control or alarm

Code 41 is the camshaft position sensor. Either the sensor is bad, the magnet inside the timing cover has fallen off, or the wiring harness for the sensor is bad. I have also heard that a worn timing chain can give this code. I have a code 41 on my 1991 88 Royale. I replaced the sensor, but it did nothing. The car periodically gets into starting fits where it almost seems like the idle can't catch itself. Good luck.
