When I start the car the idle is high. After it runs for several minutes I shut it off and restart, then it's fine. Now I start driving and less than 500 yds the warning bell starts dinging, I look for a check engine light but there is none lit. The car then dies. I am able to restart the car but several seconds later the idle acts like it is choking out and the car dies. This happens several time before I can get it back into the driveway.

Unfortunely I don't have a gage. I'm a girl who is willing to get my hands dirty but don't have any fancy tools.

Okay -Do you have a repair manual? If so start by checking the the idle air control valve
