My oil was unexpectedly low (like 3.5 liters low). I knew I had a a small leak but not that bad because there hasn’t been any oil stains left on my driveway. I just kept an eye on my oil levels. Now my check engine light is on and I’m finding oil in my air filter.

Good afternoon.

First, do you know the code for the light? That's where we need to start. You can have a parts store read it for free for you.

As far as the oil leak, you need to check your oil level often. Did the oil light come on as a warning? Does the engine make any knocking noises?

No, I have not had the code diagnosed yet. I do check the oil on a regular basis and no the oil light did not come on. This depleted quickly. There was a knocking noise which is what prompted me to check the oil. I’m trying to figure out where it would be leaking oil from that would put it in the air filter.

Okay, let me know when you get the code read. That is not a diagnostic, just a code read.

As far as the oil. if there is no external leak, it may be burning in past the piston rings. That would also explain the oil in the air filter.

I would have someone put it on a lift and verify there is no external leak.

Does it smoke out the rear?
