Check the speed sensor. It is either located on the tailshaft of the trans or on top of the rear differential housing. If the computer can't sense speed, it won't feed info to the speedo/odometer and it also won't know when to shift. O/D light will probably flash a P0500 code, but check to be sure.

I was driven home the other night when I had noticed that my overdrive off light was flashing, I tried to push the button to turn it on but it would not. What could this possiply mean?
Thank you for your time.
Jeff.

This indicates that the computer has noticed a fault in the transmission. This could be a sensor, shifting solenoid or something internal. You will need to have a diagnostic scan on your tranny to pinpoint the culprit.

Depending on what engine and trans are in the vehicle,

most of the time it is internal, od clutches burned, possibly valvebody gasket if its a small engine with the 5r55e or 5r55s 4r70w have other issues

I have a 1996 Ford E150 conversion van. I just had the transmission pan gasket replaced and the fluid replaced no problems noted. Now after the van has been driven about 15 miles the override off flashes on the shifting handle. Once the car is turned off and started back up the light is off but comes back on after about 15 miles again. No leaks in the transmission but a little bit of a whinning noise if going under 40 MPH.

We have a manual overdrive. Fluid level is fine, don't know what type neighborhood mechanic did repair. Filter not changed. Transmission tune up?

Thank you for the donation.

Was the filter also changed?
What fluid was used?
Did you recheck the level?
Can you get the codes pulled from the computer?
