I have a 1999 Honda Accord with 36,000 miles and I baby it. It has a 2.3 L V-Tech engine. I feel nervous when the tachometer goes above 2000 rpm, though I rarely go above 3000. Is it bad for the engine to go over 2000 RPM? Am I wasting gas in the 2000 to 3000 RPM range? Are these engines designed to go to 3000?

No, you aren't hurting anything. These engines can go much higher without damage. All cars have what is called a RED LINE. That is the danger point that can cause engine failure. On your tachometer, is there anything near the 6K RPM area that is red?

Yes, the red zone is from 6250 to 8000 RPM.

That is the danger zone. If you are below that, everything should be just fine.

Thanks so much for the tee-shirt. I really appreciate it. However, Medium is very tight for me. I should have specified Large, but I always use Medium. Looks as if this supplier's Medium is really Small. :)
