Press the start button on and then I hold it down to start and it goes straight to goodby?

Okay, no crank, no start. I have a good battery in the car I push the start button, and everything comes up like it's supposed to and soon as I put my foot on the brake pedal and hold down the start button it goes straight to goodby and turns off. It doesn't try to start, or anything just says goodbye.

If your 2013 Kia Optima only says "goodbye" and does not start when you press the start button, it suggests an issue with the vehicle's starting system. Here are a few potential causes and troubleshooting steps:

Battery Issues: The most common cause for a car not starting is a dead battery. Ensure your battery is fully charged and the connections are clean and tight.

Key Fob Battery: If your Optima uses a keyless entry system, the key fob battery might be dead. Try replacing the battery in the key fob.

Electrical System: There could be an issue with the car's electrical system, such as a blown fuse or a problem with the starter.

Immobilizer System: Modern cars have immobilizer systems that prevent the car from starting if the correct key is not used. If there's an issue with the system or the car is not recognizing the key, it may not start.

Faulty Start Button: The start button itself might be malfunctioning. This would require professional diagnosis and repair.

ECU (Engine Control Unit) Problem: If there's an issue with the car's computer system, it might fail to initiate the start sequence.

If the battery is okay let's run a CAN scan to see if any codes are stored. You can get a CAN scanner (Controller Area Network) which will work on most cars from Amazon.

Here is a video to show you how

and

Here is a guide to help you test the battery and how to change it out in case it fails the test, also you can take the battery to the auto parts store so they can test it as well.

Check out the images (below). Please upload pictures or videos of the problem so we can see what's going on.

Thanks for the information and I appreciate it. I'm not sure yet but I'm leaning towards the brake light switch. I couldn't get any power to the brake switch fuse. So, I'm going to start with a new switch and see what happens. Thanks again and I will let you know if I get it fixed.

I have checked all fuses and relays and all good. I changed the break switch, and it still does the same thing I press the start button on and then I hold it down to start and it goes straight to goodby and that's it, it turns back off and in getting power on the starter but it's not turning over.

Hi,

That's an interesting one. I have a question. You indicated it is getting power to the starter but not turning over. That usually indicates the starter motor itself has failed or the engine is locked.

When you try starting it, do you hear a click at the starter motor?

Take a look through this link and let me know if it helps:

Let me know.

Take care,

Joe

I didn't hear any clicking when I was trying to start it, but the girl who owns the car her boyfriend said a wire the small wire was off the starter and he's putting a new one on it. So, I'll let you know if that works with a new starter. Thanks

Yep, this will cause the starter not to work, if this does not make a difference we need to run the codes.
