Bought car with blown intake gasket I put new head and intake gaskets on the car plus a new starter, if I turn the key there's nothing no sound just the lights on dash go off until I release the key. I can cross the starter over and car cranks but will not start.

Hi,

As far as the starter not engaging, it could be a few different things. First, see if it will start in neutral. If that doesn't make a difference, move on,

If you look below, I attached the wiring schematic for the starter circuit. I need you to check the fuse 12 in the under-dash fuse box. In addition to checking the fuse, confirm there is power to and from the fuse.

Here is a link you may find helpful:

I attached the wiring schematic below so that you have a reference

If that is good, then I need you to check the starter relay which is located in the IPDM (under the hood.) If there is a different one with the same part number, switch them to see if that makes a difference. If there isn't one, follow the directions below and let me know what you find.

Let me know what you find.

Take care,

Joe

Hi,

Then either we have a faulty integral CPU in the intelligent power distribution box, no ground signal from the CPU, no power from the ignition switch, or the starter is faulty.

Did you check the fusible link to confirm it is good and sending power to the ignition switch? Also, with the key in the start position, see if there is power to the black wire with the red tracer at the relay. Also, pay attention to see if the relay clicks when you turn the key to start.

Let me know.

Joe
