Leaving a friends one night as we walked to the car I pushed the unlock button on the key fob. The alarm started going off and the key fob stopped working for a minute. After getting the alarm turned off and the car unlocked we attempted to start the car. It would start and then stall. This happened 3 times. After that it wouldn't start again. Had the car towed home and then to the dealership. The dealership said they couldn't communicate with the pcm with their computer. We sent the PCM in the mail to a company that said they can flash the PCM to remove the skim info from it so that the car wouldn't know to look for the immobilizer module. Once we received the pcm back we removed the immobilizer module and plugged in the flashed PCM. The car started and stalled once and locked us back out after two more key turns. We had the car towed to a local locksmith after we had the immobilizer module replaced and purchased 2 new non-fob keys from the locksmith. Since having it at the locksmith they have not been able to communicate with the pcm to program the new keys and the receive a fault message that the PIN code that we received from the dealership with the new immobilizer module is an incorrect PIN.

Any time the car doors are opened or the key is turned in the ignition the hazards flash for approx a minute as if the alarm is going off then stops completely until the doors are opened again or the key is used in the ignition. The horn doesn't work so there's no sound from it when the lights flash.

The original fob key we got with the car is still in working order. We've had it tested to be sure its putting out a strong signal. However it will not lock or unlock the doors by pushing the buttons. Also the panic button doesn't work either.

Since all this started if you push the unlock button on the driver and passenger doors only the lock button works. You can not unlock the car with the button on either door or on the key.

We have tried turning the key to the on position with the immobilizer module connected then disconnecting it while the key is still on and the red light on the dash will stay on steady to show there is an electrical issue and when reconnected it will flash again to show there is an invalid key being used.

When the scanner is used to check for DTC's it shows the PCM is programmed with our VIN and the dealership where we got the new immobilizer module said it is programmed to our VIN as well.

We are lost as far as what to do next. We don't want to give up on the car but we can't keep throwing money at it either just to end up not having anything fixed. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

This is an interesting one. It sounds like it is related to the anti-theft, but I can't be certain without more information.

Here is what I suggest. Have the can-bus system scanned. CAN stand for controller area network. Basically, all modules/computers are connected via the CAN. If there is a break down in the can system or one of the modules, it should indicate it with a specific code. Here is a video showing how to scan the can-bus system:

Because of all the different issues, this is where I recommend starting. If possible, do this and let me know what you find.

Take care and God Bless,

Joe
