I had my transmission rebuilt 3 yrs ago. In the past few weeks my fly wheel has been making horriible noises. "Don't fix it til it breaks" is what I was told by my mechanic. Pulling out of my driveway yesterday it almost like slipped into N. I juggled gear shift and it went again. It did it again in about 30 ft. Jiggled again and it went again. I drove another 10 miles up to 80mph on Hwy. And it just gave out. It will stay in park. If I put it in D, 1, 2, or R it won't go. Only P and N. Please help! 1800 for rebuilding it was bad enough.

Hi there,

I feel you have been given very poor advice, you should always get any small problem checked before it breaks and cost big time. I feel that you may have two issues, one with the starter motor, as what you describe on stating sound like a faulty Bendix drive or a damaged drive plate. As for the loss of drive, this sound like an internal issue with the transmission, so you best find a trans shop for a quote om repairs.
